Overview: Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) 2026

The Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) was launched to help Canadian small and medium businesses catch up with digital tools, e-commerce, and technology adoption. The program has two streams: Boost Your Business Technology (for SMEs with $500K+ revenue) and the now-closed Grow Your Business Online stream (for micro-businesses).

The Boost Your Business Technology stream provides eligible businesses with a $15,000 non-repayable grant to hire a pre-approved digital advisor to assess their technology needs and create a digital adoption plan. Following the plan, businesses can apply for a BDC interest-free loan of up to $100,000 to implement the recommended digital tools and hire young Canadians to support digital work.

CDAP is designed to fund things like: new e-commerce platforms, ERP/CRM systems, cloud migration, cybersecurity improvements, digital payment systems, inventory management software, and customer management tools.

Frequently Asked Questions (15 Questions Answered)

Is CDAP still accepting applications in 2026?

CDAP funding has been subject to government budget decisions. Check ised.canada.ca/cdap or the BDC website for the most current status. The program has had intake pauses and resumptions since 2022.

Is the $15,000 CDAP grant paid directly to me?

The $15,000 goes directly to your CDAP-approved digital advisor, not to your business account. It funds their fee for creating your digital adoption plan.

Do I have to use the BDC loan after the grant?

No. The BDC loan is optional. You can use just the grant for the digital plan without taking the loan.

What is the BDC interest-free loan?

The Business Development Bank of Canada offers a separate, interest-free loan of up to $100,000 for CDAP participants to implement their digital plans. Standard BDC terms apply for repayment.

Can I choose any digital advisor?

No — you must use a CDAP-approved advisor from the pre-approved list on the CDAP portal. You can browse advisors by specialty, location, and language.

What does a digital adoption plan include?

A current technology assessment, gap analysis, recommended digital tools, implementation roadmap, estimated costs, and ROI projections.

Can a restaurant apply for CDAP?

Yes. Restaurants commonly use CDAP for online ordering systems, reservation software, POS upgrades, and digital marketing tools.

Can a retail store use CDAP to build an e-commerce site?

Yes. Building or significantly upgrading an e-commerce presence is one of the most common CDAP uses for retail businesses.

Is CDAP available outside Ontario?

Yes — CDAP is a federal program available to eligible businesses in all provinces and territories.

Can I combine CDAP with the Canada Job Grant?

Yes. CDAP can fund digital tool implementation while the Canada Job Grant can fund employee training on those same tools. These are complementary programs.

What sectors are excluded?

Publicly funded entities (hospitals, schools), registered charities operating as NPOs, government bodies, and regulated financial services are typically excluded.

How does CDAP help with cybersecurity?

The digital advisor may recommend cybersecurity tools, and the BDC loan can fund cybersecurity implementation. Some advisors specialize in SMB cybersecurity planning.

Are there youth hiring incentives with CDAP?

Yes — CDAP has provisions to subsidize wages for hiring young Canadians (age 15-29) to support digital adoption work. Check current program terms for amounts.

How long does CDAP approval take?

Typically 4-8 weeks from registration to grant approval, assuming documentation is complete and an advisor is engaged promptly.

Can a sole proprietor apply for CDAP?

Sole proprietors with less than $500K revenue do not qualify for Boost Your Business Technology. The now-closed Grow Your Business Online stream had served micro-businesses.
